About Chris Raabe

Hello readers,

My name is Chris Raabe, the author of THE PHENOMENON TRILOGY. Book One, THE NEW PHENOMENON was released October 2011. Book two, ON THE RUN will be released January 15, 2013. You can look for book three, END GAME to be released in the summer of 2013.  I have had a number of poems and essays published by Fine Lines, a non-profit writing publication, which I also help edit when I have the time.

Not only am I an author, but I also teach middle school in Omaha, Nebraska.  Along with teaching, I coach softball in the fall at a local high school and for a summer youth softball organization, so my year consists of a lot of days on the ball fields around the Omaha area.

I enjoy the outdoors with my family, and in the spring you might find me working in the garden with one of my daughters.  I can’t pass up the opportunity to do a little grilling in the backyard or drown a couple worms in a small lake, hoping to hook my next lunker.

I spent my youth in the Omaha area before moving to Red Oak, Iowa for high school.  That is probably why I selected Red Oak as the setting for my first book.  I enjoyed my time there before moving on to college at Peru State, where I played baseball and wrote for the Peru State Times newspaper.  My years in Red Oak with Mr. Button and Mr. Gilbert as my mentors helped shape me as a writer.  I enjoy putting pen to paper to scratch out an idea before tackling the keyboard to create the next poem, essay, or book.  As my Fine Lines leader, Dave Martin, would say, “Write On!”

  6. David says:

Well, Coach, for a fisherman, this writing business of yours might be getting out of hand. How are you going to finish the third book of this trilogy, if you keep teaching players to swing for the fences and go looking for the big ones in the deepest part of the lake. I hope they keep their eyes on the sky and don’t let a tornado sneek up on them as they cross the dam. Is it true that everyone has a phenomenal part of them in their make up, somewhere? Write on, David

  7. Desirae says:

Fishing, huh! Looks like Andersen Middle School is blessed with it’s own version of Hemmingway, although with a much better outlook on life!

Can’t wait to get to read the book!

I just learned about the book today and am about to order it thinking my sons would like it when they get a little older. I was wrong. After reading the prologue and first chapter along with a couple of reviews, my 3rd and 5th graders are already hooked, but I get to read it first. Hope it ships quickly!

  21. alexis says:

why did you use the name alexis cause that is my name and everybody at school thinks it is funny that she is tall has dark hair and is tan like me and when we learnd about her i had a bright orange shirt on like tha alexis in the book

    • cdraabe says:

The character, Alexis, is based on my middle daughter. Sort of how I picture her when she is in high school, years from now. Her appearance is the opposite of my white-haired, blue-eyed, daughter. I picked “Alexis” because I have always thought it was a beautiful name. Thanks for your interest.

  22. Brenda Kral says:

    Chris,

Brian told Mom about your book and then Mom told me about your book. When ordering a book for my daughter on Amazon I remembered to add a copy to the order. Just started it last night and I am half way through. Maybe because I can envision a lot of the people/places you are describing. Looking forward to finishing this one and getting the next ones.
